Duchenne muscular dystrophy is the most common, terminal, childhood, genetic illness and at the same time is likely the most misunderstood condition. Recent innovative research has uncovered many mysteries of Duchenne including its etiology, pathophysiology and treatment. Inadequate understanding of the disease can lead to muscle injury of patients who are already at risk for severe muscle degeneration. This course will explain the incidence, etiology, pathophysiology, progression and the stages of mobility of Duchenne. Therapy treatment, orthopedic management, activity modification and equipment selection will be covered. An update on current research and clinical trials. This course is ideal for PT, PTA, OT, COTA, SLP, PE/APE, RN and others involved in the care of persons with Duchenne.
